Medford Train Park

The Medford Oregon Railroad Park is a free activity to take kids to. It’s located at 799 Berrydale Avenue Medford OR. It’s open the second and fourth Sundays of each month April-October. What makes it one of the best places to go with your family in the Rogue Valley, are the scaled model ride-on trains! Adults and children over one year old can ride trains throughout the park. The trains travel along the tracks on curves in between miniature towns, over bridges, and even through a couple of tunnels. The Medford Train Park also includes impressive model train villages to watch the trains run. Here’s our detailed look at the Medford Oregon Train Park.

The Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon

The Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon is located at 413 W. Main St. Medford OR. If you have young kids, put this place at the top of your list! There are three main sections of the children’s museum: indoor, outdoor, and the annex.

The indoor space at The Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon is enormous. It’s filled with all kids of dramatic play areas (farm, farm stand, kitchen, ambulance, doctor’s office, nursery, construction zone, fire watch tower, animal rescue, lake, theater, light play, water play, and more). It also has a Makery with multiple craft stations always ready to create. There’s an enclosed area for children under 3 to safely play. And there’s even a classroom where special events happen. Check their calendar here.

The newly opened outdoor adventure space at the Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon has a large sand area for play, a river meant for walking and playing in, a trike track, a camping play area, a musical instrument section, a large play structure with slide and climbing, and even an amphitheater.

Across the street is the Annex. This area houses the children’s clay studio, the children’s cooking classes, and other special events.

There are so many fun things for kids to do here, I cannot list them all. If you haven’t been you must go for a visit. They sell one day admission tickets, annual passes, and even offer discount passes to families who qualify. Here’s our detailed look at the Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon.

Medford Oregon Library: Children’s Room

Medford Oregon Library is located at 205 South Central Ave Medford OR. You can park along the road or use the parking lot in the back. Once you enter follow the signs to the Children’s Library. The Children’s room is enormous. It’s filled with books for all age children. They have a board game section to sit and play while you’re there. There are also movies you can check out to take home. There’s a meeting room where special events for kids are held check their event calendar for what’s happening. They have a ton of programs for kids.

The young kids section is all the way to the back of the room. It’s filled with a ton of dramatic play toys: Lots of cars and other toys, a play kitchen area with food and pots, a train table, games, and comfortable seating for the parents. During the warmer months, the doors next to the play area open out to a lovely enclosed outdoor children’s play area.

When we first moved to the Rogue Valley, I heard people say to avoid this library. Like most downtown areas Medford has its share of unhoused individuals. I know everyone’s comfort level with going downtown with their children varies, but we’ve yet to have anything other than a pleasant experience when we go. I think its almost a hidden treasure. Another mom sent me photos of the interior, and I knew instantly we needed to go explore it. I’m so glad we did because its one of our favorite places to go with kids in Medford Oregon.

large sand play area ready for kids to play in sand at the oregon hills park in medford oregon

Oregon Hills Park

Oregon Hills Park is located at 6001 E. McAndrews Road Medford OR. Our favorite part is the large sand area for kids to play. During the summer months the splash pad is running so its a perfect spot for kids to build castles in the sand and then cool off at the spray park.

Olsrud Family Playground at Bear Creek Park

Bear Creek Park is located at 530 Highland Drive Medford OR. Its the largest playground in Medford Oregon and is divided into two sections: a toddler playground and a playground for older kids. The toddler playground has just been rebuilt after a fire destroyed it. The toddler area has slides, swings including a parent & child swing, and lots of other climbing structures for toddlers to play. It is fenced separately from the larger kids area. The other area is quite large with multiple slides, swings, climbing structures, musical instruments, and even a zip line. Both areas have soft foam flooring.

Bear Creek Park in Medford also includes a dog park, skate park, tennis courts, BMX track, and walking paths along the greenway. There are covered pavilions and a large amphitheater where kids movies play for free during the summer months at Movies in the Park.
